The Religious Spirit is a Demon! by Minister Francine

Religious demon is not a new fangled term. Well known Christian authors like Derek Prince and Rick Joyner have used this term initially. But Pam Sheppard has taken their teachings to a higher more advanced level. She has done extensive research, and exposes exactly who, and what a religious demon is. In her ground breaking book, ” Faces of the Religious Demon” she ushers us into a full-scale description of the scope and function of religious demons in the organized church.

Unfortunately, the church as a whole, shuns the fact that demons exist and operate today. This is grave error! In fact, as Pam relates, religious demons have entered into the church. Well meaning deliverance ministers, are limited in knowledge. At best they may be able to cast out demons, but are too often unskilled at accomplishing total deliverance for captives. Demons often return to victims with a vengeance. The word of God refers to this, for we know that when a house is swept clean, demons can, and will find another door of entry.

Pam Sheppard writes:
The first time I personally heard the term ” religious spirit ” or ” religious demon ” was in a prophecy I received in 1983. In this word, I was given a spiritual warfare assignment against 7 high-ranking fallen angels that I began to refer to as ” The Seven Walls”, with the religious devil  as wall number 5 in the list: alcohol and drugs, homosexuality, prostitution, witchcraft, the religious spirit, prejudice and poverty. To walk in darkness is to give the religious demon an unholy advantage where he will enter into both spiritual and man made temples, and through a blasphemous masquerade, attempt to exalt himself above God. When the demon is able to enter into a Christian temple of either flesh or brick and subsequently obtain worship for itself through fraudulence and deceit, this is truly an abomination of desolation (Daniel 11:36).
My dear readers you ought to get a copy of Pam’s book. I can attest to what Pam is describing. Why? Because I have read the whole book , and can now understand much of what she expounds on regarding the religious demon. A religious demon will display some of the following traits:
A. Unknown tongues with no translation
B. Religiosity and odd extremes
C. Slain in the spirit which is unscriptural
D. Divination under the guise of prophecy
E. Repetiton of the abominable sinners prayers. i.e ” I accept Jesus ” or ” Jesus come into my heart “
As you can see, a religious demon is an abominable desolation indeed, and displays a carnal, fleshly worship that has nothing to do with God or Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Deliverance Ministry? It Doesn’t Work!

Deliverance ministry? I never heard of it. I never heard of it in the churches I was in. I think you know what I’m talking about. Here’s a scenario: You go to a church, you’re a recovering drug addict, a recovering alcoholic, or suffer from clinical depression. You may still be drinking, drugging, and as depressed as a wild bird in a tiny gilded cage. But you desperately want to get free.

You get into a church and tell your story, folks look at you like you came from Mars. Then they keep telling you to ” stand on the word “.

You are newcomer in church, and have absolutely no idea what that means. You’re looking for deliverance, but the pastor has no real clue, as to what you’re talking about. And you better not have any kind of crisis in church, folks will creep backwards towards the emergency exit. The pastor will nervously give you a referral to AA or a psychiatrist .Deliverance ministry is not on the churches menu of services. You are up the creek without a paddle, cast back into world to get secular help.

You wonder about Jesus, and how he cast out demons. You have the sense to know, that yours is not their regular case. Everyone in the church pretends that demons don’t exist. When you say Jesus cast them out, so they must exist. The pastor tells you you’re a radical. The pastor tells you we don’t do that here. We don’t specialize in deliverance ministry. You wonder, what kind of pastor is this?

The pastor doesn’t cast out demons, or deal with demonic afflictions. Say what? To add insult to injury, he doesn’t know anyone involved in deliverance ministry. There you are, a newbie in church, with demons riding your back like a pack of monkeys. The people who are supposed to know all about deliverance haven’t got a clue. You just make them nervous. So you sit in the church for 50 years, go to the counselor and take the pills. And since you also have the drinking problem, you become a lifelong member in AA for 50 years. You wonder, where is my victory in Christ? I’m worst than I was before I got in this church.

Pam writes: If the deceived and bound have not heard it already, they will hear the Lord say ” I never knew you “. And the fault will be that of the ministers who are complicating the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through what I am learning as I practice my profession of counseling, obviously the church models of today aren’t working. When people can sit in church and listen to sermon after sermon for 50 years and still not be saved, organized church is not working…..when captives can go to their pastor seeking relief from bondage only to hear ” stand on the word”–a word that neither the pastor or captive understands…it is NOT working.

P.S. This article may seem quite funny to you. Well, I was the person in church for years suffering from depression, which is a spirit. I finally just decided to believe Jesus, and ignore the organized church. I cast that spirit from myself in Jesus’s name.. I also had a drug problem. I was not a drinker though. The above story is just an illustration. But the theme was the same for me. I was in a church where the pastor thought casting out demons was radical, he also had no one he could refer me to. The article probably has a touch of humor, simply because I’m too too delighted to be in training for deliverance ministry under Pam Sheppard. She developed her own deliverance model of cursing the very root of demonic affliction and possession. By the time she finishes with you you’ll be straight and free, if that is your true desire.

CASTING OUT DEMONS: DEPROGRAMMING
There are people with religious demons who are tormented either with hearing voices, fears of having committed the unpardonable sin 0r of going to hell  as well constantly are bombarded by blasphemous thoughts. Some can’t even read their bibles out loud or silently. I recall a case where a captive could only read a pocket bible for fear that a demon would use her arm to pound her in the head with a hardcover, and possibly sustain  a concussion. So it is easy to embrace  a quick-fix  simply to relieve or stop the torment. Most workers  simply attempt to cast out demons  as a means to remove ALL  of a person’s bondages.It never really works. I have found that setting captives free who have a spirit of religiosity  in any form,  involves more than simply casting  out the demons.
 
First of all, there are usually various strongholds to be torn down. Since strongholds are incorrect thinking patterns, this is done through the renewing of the captive’s  mind according to the Word of God. As the Lord said “you can’t put new wine into old wineskins or it will break. You can’t put a new patch of cloth on an old garment or it will tear, and you certainly cannot serve 2 masters, or you will hate the deliverance worker and love the preachers and teachers who are a significant yet hidden cause of your captivity.
The purpose of deliverance is to gain freedom from any hindrances in your life that would keep you from walking in the fullness of God’s plan for your life and your relationship with Him. Remarkably to some, it is often habitual religiosity that is the most difficult stronghold to overcome, even stronger than an addiction to alcohol or drugs because religion and “going to church” is culturally engrained and is therefore considered “the right thing to do.” It takes much time and patience to free captives from religion or a deceptive form of spirituality—a form of godliness that denies the power thereof.

I will not cast out demons  from  a “religious captive” who continues to go to church, feed from the tables of either deceived or false prophets, and who is praying to a fake god. Therefore I mandate that while involved in deliverance counseling or mentoring with Sheppard’s Counseling Center, the captive must cease and desist from all religious activity including reading the bible and praying. Old things must pass away so that all things can become new.

What we  have been running into is that there are many people out there who need DELIVERANCE FROM DELIVERANCE MINISTRIES—– FOR THERE IS MUCH “QUACKERY AND NONSENSE” GOING ON.  Uninformed deliverance workers may be the root cause of the severity of your present bondage and/or torment.  It is a sin and a shame!!! Deliverance from deliverance  is what you need. 

The purpose of ministering deliverance is to set free those who are in bondage. As Jesus was sent forth to preach deliverance to the captives (Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to… preach deliverance to the captives…”), so we are also sent out (John 20:21, “Then said Jesus to them… as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”) to do the works He did (John 14:12, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also…”), and this includes casting out of devils (Matthew 10:8).

The ministry of deliverance is about bringing spiritual victory and freedom to those who are in bondage to devils and demons. It doesn’t matter what you call it (demonized, possessed, oppressed, etc.), if you are in demonic bondage, whether you need to tear down a stronghold, break up a legal ground, cast a demon out, or all three… it’s still deliverance, because it’s setting the captives free. There are 5 important elements of this ministry. I  train my deliverance coaches  to be  knowledgeable of all 5 elements so that they are  prepared to address them without hesitation:

Casting Down Imaginations by Receiving Truth: Setting captives free is more about getting them to receive the truth than it is about  commanding demons to come out. This is a grave mistake that causes a lot of people to walk away from a deliverance still in bondage. There is more to it than simply casting out demons. In Luke 9:42, we are told a story of how Jesus not only rebuked demons in a boy who was mentally affected by evil spirits, but also is said to have healed the boy. There is no mention of the boy needing physical healing, but if you look up the word healed in this passage, one of the meanings is, “to free from errors and sins…”, which is likely what Jesus did with the boy, Jesus removed the boy’s legal grounds (sins) and freed him from errors (strongholds). This case of deliverance required more than just rebuking demons!

Tearing down strongholds: Strongholds are people, places and things  that have obtained control in your life, one way or the other and are often set up and nurtured by demons through lies and deception.  For example, if you were raped or had a frightening, unexpected car accident, a stronghold of fear was established IN you by a demon. Demons thrive on strongholds, and use them to hang around a person and torment them. Failing to tear down strongholds can hold up a deliverance and prevent us from walking in complete spiritual freedom.

Removing legal rights: Legal rights are things that give demons permission to enter and remain in our lives. Before demons can often be cast out, it is important to address and remove these legal rights.  Failing to remove legal rights can hold up a deliverance very easily. Demons receive legal rights not so much because of what other’s have done but because of what YOU ignorantly did to invite them in.  You need to understand HOW you invited them in BEFORE an entity is confronted, or the demon will trick you into inviting him back!

Closing Demonic Doorways: Demons enter the soul through 7 doorways or gateways. We determine through a process of inquiry, which doorway is open: the crown, the third eye, the throat, the heart, the navel, the sex organs or the anus. We also determine what demons need to be cast out.

Casting out the demons: This requires two basic elements: knowledge of your authority in Christ Jesus over the powers of the enemy, and faith in that authority. Demons are cast out with a simple spoken command, such as, “I command the spirit of fear to come out in the name of Jesus!” We ask those we work with to complete a deliverance questionnaire called the DAF, Deliverance Assessment Form  that will give us an overview of their background, the bondages they are facing, the root or source of their problem, as well as legal grounds, strongholds and any particular spirits that need to be addressed. Then we begin to work with them to break up any legal grounds, and tear down any strongholds together we  see in your  life and of course, cast out any demons that need to go. If it takes more than 15 minutes, which includes the prayer, to cast out a demon, either there is no demon there or the preliminary work was not completely done.  If you have rolled around the floor in a deliverance session for hours or days, all you did was pick up MORE demons.

   There are also times when even  the most talented people do not know how to move beyond certain obstacles on their own.  Coping skills can become  overwhelmed and faith can be weakened.  This happens to all of us at some point in our spiritual walk.  Yet it takes a special kind of courage for you to seek  help now.  You don’t have to wait another minute to receive the help you deserve! HERE IS YOUR GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD

Here are some practical ways to start the process of ridding yourself of demonic captivity by casting down imaginations and every high thing that would exalt itself above the knowledge of Christ and bringing every thought into obedience to Him:

    • Your Attitude Toward the Past: You should have no regrets or brooding over things done and undone.  To avoid an evil kind of thinking that leads to brooding, you must learn to discern for yourself if you are simply “thinking” or if you are being drawn into a state of regretting or brooding by the demon that is assigned to YOU. If you are to overcome, you need to know that success at   being set free requires victory over the past, in spite of all your failures that the enemy helps you to list and record in your mind.  Your failures should be dealt with on the basis of I John 1:9.
    • Your Attitude Toward the Future:  You must concentrate on the Lord’s own words by “taking no thought for tomorrow.”  Not that you should not think about or even make future plans, but you should be careful not to fall victim to trying to make up in the future for sins of the past that already have been forgiven by God.  Once a sin has been repented of, cleansing will occur when you can forget what is behind and press toward the future that is God’s plan for the rest of your life.
    • Your Attitude Toward Devils and Demons: You should be trained to discern your own thoughts from those implanted into your mind by spirit entities.  You should realize that only the Lord knows your heart and that demons cannot read your mind.  Demons know only the thoughts that THEY have successfully planted into your mind–thoughts that you have received as your own because of the nature of your deception.  Remember this.  “He that doeth the truth, cometh to the light.”  (John 3:21)
    • Your Attitude Toward the Present Moment:  Doubt can be a good thing, particularly when those fictitious foundations upon which you have built up your pride system become shaky.  Doubt of this kind can lead to sincere humility.  God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.  Against the enemy, your best weapon is God’s grace.  Your worst mistake in judgment is your assumption that because you profess to be a Christian, that God will protect you from being deceived.  Not so.  It is God Himself who has released strong delusion in our times.  So deception is a matter of course.  God has given us the weapons and the tools to be un-deceived.  Your best weapon is to look around you, and allow your doubt to assist you to question EVERYTHING!

THEOBJECTIVES OF DELIVERANCE MENTORING

We have found that most Christians who need deliverance mentoring are blinded by spiritual ignorance.  Our goal at SEW is to help you obtain clear spiritual vision as we coach and train you to distinguish between good and evil. 

The goal of basic Christian mentoring  is to help you to be engaged, encouraged and enlightened  in your mind. As such, our objective at  is to strengthen your spirit so that you will be able to recognize God’s will and choose it above your own. 

 However, the goal of deliverance mentoring  is to arm you to recognize and effectively deal with  the activity of the enemy in your life.  Deliverance mentoring is broken down into 4 components:

 A SEARCH FOR COSMIC EVIL DOORWAYS: These are areas  in a person’s life which are giving or have given cosmic entities the right to enter or remain in the person. Asking Jesus to “come into your heart, a counterfeit birth, a background in the occult, unconfessed sins, ungodly soul ties, unforgiveness, holding cursed possessions (occult rings, etc.) and so forth can give demons a right to inhabit and torment a person. These legal grounds can be  removed by facing the truth,  repentance, renunciation, extending forgiveness, etc.

THE EXAMINATION OF STRONGHOLDS: These are basically incorrect thinking patterns in your mind. For example, if  you think God is angry with you because you have committed the unpardonable sin, then you will feel like He is. This stronghold may open you to panic attacks, paranoia  or obsessive compulsive behavior. Strongholds are torn down in each mentoring session  as a trained minister and mentee work together to reprogram your mind to think differently. You might say that the SEW approach to a stronghold is to enhance critical thinking capabilities and simple commonsense. Together the mentor and the mentee destroy the strength of the debilitating thought.

RESTORATION OF YOUR SOUL: Renewal is often required when counseling a person who has been abused, raped or has been exposed to a traumatic experience. Becoming whole  is a work of the Holy Spirit and is received as a captive is  delivered from  the inner hurt and pain from past experiences. Then   the Holy Spirit  comes in and heal those wounds. Forgiveness often plays a part in this releasing process. Oftentimes, self-forgiveness needs to be received as the captive may be   holding things against him or herself which must be released. Once truth is known and accepted, frrdom is obtained.

EXPULSION OF THE ENEMY Confronting  cosmic entities directly  is where either devils or demons are  driven out of the client by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the power of the Holy Ghost. After success in the first three stages,  expulsion is often un-necessary. However, in various cases, direct confrontation of the powers of darkness cannot be avoided.  At this stage, the client MUST sign and notarize an informed consent form called the DDF, the Deliverance Disclaimer Form. There are no exceptions.

Deliverance Mentoring

Deliverance ministry was founded in the early seventies once the book “Pigs in the Parlor” was released by   Frank and Ida Hammond. Derek Prince and Peter Wagner were also key players in its development over the last 4 decades. I entered into deliverance in 1983. Here are but a few  of the revelations I have received over the years.

   I have learned that the demons of today KNOW HOW TO MOCK a deliverance session with the manifestations of coughing, rasping, retching, vomiting—pea soup type stuff as seen in the movie, “the Exorcist.”  Much of this is fakery—not on the part of the person in bondage, but the antics of the earthbound demons.  Those who “manifest” in this manner are rarely set free.  In other words, the demons of today are more sophisticated than the ones faced by Jesus and His apostles. These entities have had centuries “to practice” their craft. So their goal is to make a mockery of “casting out of demons”  so as  to defy Jesus Christ by making  the deliverance worker look like an inept fool.

  Earth bound demons can be cast out  by faith in the Name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth in  5 minutes.  If a deliverance session takes longer than THAT, then
an earth bound demon is NOT involved. It is either a cosmic power—a fallen
angel who is NOT a demon—OR NO DEMON AT ALL.

3. The minister or worker  seeking to help another under the captivity  of evil
spirits, must be prepared for the deceiving spirits misusing to the captive  the
very truth the captive himself desires, and needs for his deliverance.  The
enemy will also misrepresent and attempt to discredit  the minister seeking to
help the captive to freedom.  In other words, if you have a demon—both you and the minister need to be defensively prepared for the fact  that the your resistance to the truth that will be revealed through mentoring.  Your resistance will be inspired by the very demon who has you in bondage.

 Deliverance mentoring  is a process wherein the captive and the minister join  forces to  systematically confront  the forces of darkness with TRUTH. In deliverance mentoring, mentees are equipped and  taught to  understand the intelligent use of the spiritual weapons   so as to obtain knowledge of the organized hosts of darkness. As such, the mentee is coached on how  to try the spirits by exercising  his or her own spiritual vision so that “by reason of use” it becomes acute in discerning the operations of the enemy in the spiritual sphere. If you are  a captive, it is crucial to your complete recovery to know the methods of the enemy against you,  in his  war against ALL  the people of God.

The powers of darkness are keenly clever at working with natural problems by simulating natural conditions either in a client’s personality or disturbance of mental or bodily functions.  They watch
for some physical, emotional, attitudinal or mental dysfunction to serve as a cover or an explanation of their own workings .Casting demons out without dealing with the root cause of the dysfunction may relieve a client from torment, but the relief is only temporary or the enemy will simply strategize by transferring its activity  in another sphere of life.  So a person believes that they are healed
when in essence, the enemy has merely shifted his target.

In terms of strategy, demons are skilled at taking two opposing positions.  In other words, the enemy will purposefully control both sides of any situation, so that the unsuspecting will assume that since one approach is obviously demonic, the opposing option MUST BE GOD, when both approaches and opinions are demonic.  The goal is to control every side of every situation,in order to obscure, deceive and confuse. In this way, the enemy can advance a long-term agenda.  Most often, the enemy’s attack is to distract from root causes so as to maintain power and control.

CLOSING DEMONIC DOORWAYS PERMANENTLY!

The words of the old prophet Hosea ring true.  The Lord’s people are definitely  destroyed fora lack of knowledge.   With deliverance counseling,  demons will  often leave on its own accord once they realize that through deliverance counseling,  you have been armed with spiritual truth.  They leave because they sense that your faith has increased to stand against them.  In other cases, demons have been hidden within a person’s personality for so long, that  the Holy Spirit will set up a situation so that the demons will be exposed and come out of hiding.
